What to Expect at Your First Visit to DC Pearls
If it has been a while since you saw a dentist — or you are switching practices and not sure what to expect — this is for you. A first visit at DC Pearls is designed to be low-pressure and genuinely useful. Here is how it goes.
Before your appointment
You will receive a confirmation email and a link to complete your new patient forms online. This takes about five minutes. Completing them in advance means you spend zero time on paperwork when you arrive.
If you have dental insurance, bring your insurance card or have the group number handy. If you have dental X-rays from a previous provider within the last two years, you can request those records in advance and we will review them.
Booking is easy — you can schedule directly on our website or call the office.
When you arrive
DC Pearls is a boutique practice. You will not be sitting in a crowded waiting room. Our team greets every patient by name. If this is your first visit, someone on our team will introduce themselves and walk you through what the appointment covers before anything starts.
The comprehensive exam
Your first appointment includes a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, bite, and jaw. We use digital X-rays — fast, low-radiation, and available for you to see on-screen immediately. If it is clinically appropriate, we will also take intraoral photos so you can see exactly what we see.
We check for cavities, signs of gum disease, worn enamel, cracked teeth, and anything else that needs attention. We also screen for oral cancer — this is part of every comprehensive exam and takes about 60 seconds.
The conversation about your goals
This is what sets a boutique dental experience apart. We ask you what brought you in, what has been bothering you (if anything), and whether there is anything about your smile you have always wanted to change. You do not have to have cosmetic goals — plenty of patients just want healthy teeth. But if you do, this is the time to bring it up.
We do not push treatment. If your teeth are healthy and you have no cosmetic concerns, we will tell you that and schedule your next cleaning.
Your treatment plan
If we find anything that needs attention — or if you are interested in cosmetic work — we build a written treatment plan before you leave. This outlines what is recommended, in what order, and what the estimated investment looks like. Nothing is scheduled without your approval.
If you are exploring cosmetic options like veneers, whitening, or bonding, we can walk through what those treatments would look like for your specific teeth during this same visit.
Cleaning on the same day
In most cases, we can complete your cleaning on the same day as your new patient exam. No need to schedule a second appointment for the hygienist. We know your time matters.
What you leave with
You leave with clean teeth, a clear picture of your dental health, a written treatment plan if one is needed, and a scheduled follow-up. No mystery, no pressure, no surprises on the bill.
If you are ready to come in, book your new patient appointment here. We see patients from across Washington DC, Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, and the surrounding area.
